For the past 10 seasons, MADE Fashion Week has been providing a platform for emerging designers. It began as a "passion project" in 2009 to help young creatives after the recession by providing sponsored shows, but has evolved into a must-see event for the fashion community. Curated by executive director Jenné Lombardo, MADE in collaboration with Milk Studios, presents the next generation of trendsetting designers.
MADE, cofounded by Mazdack Rassi and Keith Baptista, has catapulted designers like Joseph Altuzarra to mainstream success. In addition to brands like Public School and Gareth Pugh, over 20 rising designers showed this season. Below are three that stood out.
Award-winning menswear designer, Patrik Ervell, is known for using unusual fabrics to structure his utilitarian aesthetic. His spring/ summer collection featured classically tailored pieces made of polyurethane, vinyl and racing leather.
The london-based womenswear designer presented in New York for the first time this season. Her sporty spring collection, inspired by Berlin's modern architecture, included metallic leathers, asymmetrical dresses and 3-D jacquards.
Jonathan Simkhai found inspiration for his spring/summer collection from broken glass. The geometric shapes and feminine silhouettes made for the perfect combination between sexy and sporty.
