2001 Landscape: the project was created to highlight B&B Italiaʼs innovated manufacturing process, and cerebrate the companyʼs core values as executed through this design project. Performance, quality and aesthetics were pushed and worked to the limit in coming up with the right solution. Like many chaises, Landscape ʼ01 was design with a nap in mind, and as such, like many classic chaises, the userʼs seating position is very conducive to relaxing and falling asleep. Because there is not an armrest, while sleeping, naturally the user will adjust their position; there by it is likely that oneʼs arm may fall off to the side, thereby waking them up from a nice nap.
2005 Landscape: with the 2001 version already out on the market, the ʼ05 exploration was about creating a solution that offered a more relaxed seating position with a right sided arm rest, which allows for alternative seating positions and the ability to relax further while reading the newspaper or a book.
2011 Landscape: with the ʼ01 and the ʼ05 version already out, this further exploration incorporates a rocking motion as an added new seating experience. Additional to the new rocking experience, there is also a new top cushion element that creates an added layer of comfort for the user. The combination of the rocking motion, coupled with the added cushion,
changes the overall user experience in a very wonderful new way for ʻ11. Kvadrat was chosen as a new technical partner to help explore and facility the added comfort that is key to this new version. The new 2011 Landscape version is also the 10-year anniversary of this project, and signifies a decade of continued work together in one specific area over an extended period of time. Throughout the entire range from 2001- 2011, each new version is the continued celebration of B&B Italiaʼs approach to technology, ongoing seating performance exploration and enhancing the userʼs experience by continuing to offer new options based on functionality and comfort. Key to the project and the overall approach, is maximizing intelligently the development resources used along the entire life cycle of the product in a very efficient, new approach.
