Events at Design Miami/Basel 2008
Luminaire's Paperlove and Wolfgang Roth & Partners~ In 2006, Luminaire hosted PUPPYLOVE during Art Basel Miami Beach. We invited over 35 of the world’s most famed designers, artists, and architects to participate in this extraordinary international event. A 3D plastic puppy was provided to each of the participants as a blank canvas. These amazingly inspired puppies were auctioned, raising $450,000 to fund the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of the foremost Cancer research facilities. This year, Luminaire is continuing it’s unending quest of finding a cure for cancer and will be hosting PAPERLOVE where we will auction one-of-a-kind pieces of art with the main mediums paper from world-renowned designers, architects and artists. Just think about how amazing paper really is. You can write, draw, paint and print on it; you can cut and fold it; you can mold it.Whether made from silk or bamboo or mulberry bark, it has throughout time inspired great and lasting art. In some cultures, primarily in the East, paper has long been recognized as a highly precious and valued material. In the West, however, paper is often thought of as a disposable commodity, not intended to
last much longer than today’s newspaper. This is why those of us at Luminaire feel it is time that we took stock and looked at paper anew. Uniting for the single cause of conquering cancer through art and design, all proceeds from the auction will again go to fund the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. we look forward to making a significant contribution toward finding a cure.

~ Wolfgang Roth & Partners, Fine Art gallery hosted its opening night reception of Arne Quinze: Sculptures and David LaChapelle: Jesus is My Homeboy photography series kicking off Art Basel Miami Beach 2008.
The opening reception saw a convergence of celebrities, the art world’s elite and a faithful entourage of dedicated sybarites on hand to witness this unprecedented exhibition. On hand were Lenny Kravitz and daughter Zoey Kravitz, Naomi Campbell, David LaChapelle, Arne Quinze, Barbara Becker, Ben Pundole, Fred Torres, Marita Stavrou, Ric Pippino, Terrence Koh, Marcel Wanders, Lauren Taschen, Tom Dixon, Victoria Cummock, Nicole & Edgar Lozano, and Romero Britto, to name a few.
Guests noshed on passed Hors d’oeuvres catered by Miami Beach’s own Smith & Wollensky restaurant and sipped on Nicolas Feuillatte champagne and Don Q specialty mojitos as they admired and discussed LaChapelle’s Jesus is my Homeboy photograph series and Quinze’s spectacular sculptures.
The festivities carried on into the night as the Mondrian Hotel, Wolfgang Roth, his partner Reiner Opoku and Fred Torres hosted an after party for the duo at the newly opened South Beach locale. On the turntables was LaChapelle’s roving DJ, Jon Jon Battles spinning old school funk, rock and classics. The party quickly turned into quite the bacchanal as revelers kicked up their heels and danced the night away in the magnificently designed Sunset Lounge. Partaking in the debauchery were such guests as Calvin Klein, Ingrid Sischy, Marcel Wanders, Tony Schafrazi, artists Kehinde Wiley and Mickalene Thomas, Zoey Kravitz, Barbara Becker, Lauren and Benedikt Taschen legendary drag queen and personality, Lady Bunny with her Miami counterpart, Miss Elaine Lancaster. LaChapelle’s muse, Amanda Lepore was unfortunately not in tow; lady Bunny had no qualms about trying to fill her shoes. With a magnum of Champagne in hand, she put on quite the show, dancing on the bar and rolling around in what seemed like a trance. Guests were thoroughly entertained. Let’s just say, everyone left when the lights were illuminated and the bar was dry. “What a way to start the Basel week”, said Ben Pundole, VP of Entertainment and Events for the Morgan’s Hotel Group who owns and operates the Mondrian Hotel.
