Tord Boontje x Royal College of Art at SaloneProfessor Tord Boontje, Head of Design Products at the Royal College of Art in London will be presenting work by 90 students and recent graduates of the MA course at this year’s Milan Salone del Mobile.Occupying over 900 square meters of a disused factory in Lambrate – the old industrial district of east Milan - Hotel RCA promises to be one of the highlights of the design festival.
Taking the typology of a hotel, the work will be displayed in zones corresponding to the functions and spaces commonly found in the interior, such as the reception area, lounge and bedrooms. The exhibition will include the full range of design activity represented by this prestigious postgraduate course, including product design and furniture, as well as more conceptual and speculative work.
Designs from graduates include Min Kyu Choi’s ingenious folding plug – winner of the 2010 Brit Insurance Design of the Year award. Other practical and space saving objects include Maciek Wojcicki’s L.O.F.T workstation and Felix de Pass’ stylish desk.
This is the first presentation of work by all Design Products students in Milan with their new Professor Tord Boontje. Commenting on the show Boontje said:
“This is a creative opportunity for our students to show their work at an international design event. We have invited last year’s graduates to showcase their finished products alongside current students who will also be designing and building the exhibition.”
The exhibition will run April 14-18, 2010 at Ventura Lambrate. Private View will take place on April 14 from 6pm-11pm.
Hotel RCA is kindly supported by BASF.
