Solaris by Paulina Połoz: Fashion Installation in Madrid

Polish designers Paulina Połoz, Sekator, Piotr Połoz, Bartek Kujawski, and Mariusz Jabłoński collaborated on a Fashion Multimedia Installation at the Art Factory in Łódź, Madrid for an innovate way to showcase the designers collection.  Their work is based on fellow Polish philosophical writer and scientist Stanisław Lem, who’s main focus is mankind’s knowledge on what he perceives with his senses and his place in the universe.

The installation stimulates the audience into thinking about possibilities of establishing contact with one’s self, with another person, or with a still object. Therefore it forces you to think about the limits of cognition, if there are any, and their relationship with the knowledge an individual has about the world.

The pieces of the collection are set up by individual silhouettes that are enclosed in illuminated Plexiglas’s throughout the gallery eliminating the need of live models.  As the audience walks around the spa e they are gaining a different perspective of the collection.

The emotional aspect of the installation is a multimedia piece focused on film screenings. The intention is to explain the objects enclosed in the Plexiglas’s to the audience.   “’It’ removed the deepest, most isolated imprint, the most ‘assimilated’ structure,” a quote from the work “Solaris” was the authors inspiration for the project.  The film is centered on a man and a woman wearing clothes from the collection located in a famous bathhouse in Zgierz, Poland.
